Realtor Advice: Be weary of new construction or renovated homes
/If you are thinking about purchasing a newly constructed or renovated home, always keep in mind that you must still do your due diligence. Just because a home looks new doesn't mean that it is problem-free. Many home buyers are experiencing home purchases where the quality of materials and workmanship of new construction and renovations are subpar. Common issues are improper drywall installation, electrical issues, leaking pipes, no handrails, no basement waterproofing or drainage system.
Here are some ways to minimize your risk:
1. Always get a copy of the permits filed and completed.
2. Always get the home inspected by an independent, third-party inspection company.
3. Always ask questions about the materials used in the construction.
IMPORTANT: A completed permit doesn't mean everything was done correctly.
